RB Boats was Founded in 1981 by Fred Braun. Fred built his first Wooden Driftboat at the age of 16 after taking apart a old original Woodie Hindman driftboat built in the 1940s. And using it for patterns. Fred would build himself a new wooden driftboat every year and sell the used year old boat. As the years went by Fred’s career path led him to be a Sheetmetal journeyman and in 1981 he decided to build an Aluminum Driftboat based on the Woodie Hindman design. A full continuous gradual rocker on the bottom.
After building the boat and using it the conversations at the boat ramps would include the questions of who built it and how could they get one. RB Boats was born. Jim Mickel came to work for Fred in February of 1987 at the ripe old age of 19. With a eagernesses to learn about building boats, a natural gift of welding skills and ability and a passion for giving 100% to the task at hand. After several years of being Fred’s shop Foreman Fred Sold the business to Jim in 1996. Jim has added several more models and styles of boats to the RB family of boats But is still committed to building the Finest hand crafted aluminum boats along with his Son Matthew.
